Catherine Van de Heyning is an associate professor in European fundamental rights law at the University of Antwerp.
She graduated as a Master of Laws from Antwerp University in 2006 and went on to obtain an LLM degree at University College London. In 2011 she was awarded the title of Doctor of Law for her thesis “Fundamental rights lost in complexity? The multilevel protection of human rights in the European legal space”.
She is currently an associate professor af the University of Antwerp specialising in the impact of digitalisation on human rights, in particular in the field of criminal justice. In addition, she is member of the advisory committee of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations and public prosecutor.
